So I obviously don't know how to do pictures on here very well. =/
School has been going great for both of us. I absolutely LOVE my class and am excited about what I'll be doing. I think the majority of the people in the class are getting their CNA just to move on to something else, but a couple of us can look past the poop clean-up, and know that
our job will be very influential for the people that we care for. I can't think of anything I'd rather do than take care of people, serve them, and help them with things they are unable to do for themselves, whether temporarily or permanently. Maybe I'll change my mind after a few months of working, but for now I'm really excited. We start clinicals on the 24th. We will mostly be going to rest/nursing homes to get our practice hours in, but I'm also planning to attend one at the American Fork Hospital. This of course depends on weather I can get all my immunization stuff all together and my background check taken care of.
Chris is doing much better in his math class than we originally expected, which is of course a great blessing! He's doing well with his drawing class as well. He seems to have an interesting teacher to say the least. He has assigned a book for them to be reading throughout the semester as well, which Chris enjoys and likes to share his thoughts about it with me.
One of our assignments for class was to shave a man's face, so we would get some practice on someone before we have to shave someone's face in a nursing home. It was an interesting experience... and I only cut him once (or twice =]).
I take immense pride and joy in making food! The picture above shows a Sunday dinner I made which included rice with celery, carrots, and chicken flavoring in it, chicken with homemade barbecue sauce and bacon on it, a side of broccoli, and fresh avocado and tomato. I'm not a big avocado or tomato person, but I'm generally able to eat anything, even if I don't like it very much. I also like it because it adds such a fresh taste to the meal. =] I can spend hours in the kitchen and be content. If Chris and I can enjoy something, it doesn't matter to me how long it takes to make it! It helps that Chris is so appreciative and, though I usually turn him down, he always offers to help.
Last night I spent a little while making peanut butter cookies. They were supposed to have hershey kisses in the middle, but we didn't have any, so I just piled a couple chocolate chips in the middle instead. And, as you can see from the last picture, I couldn't help making a little surprise for my wonderful husband!

Winter Wonderland

So needless to say, December was quite the month for us.
The first or second Sunday of December was the first snow of the winter. We were running a little behind for Church (it runs in the family) and Chris dropped me off at the door and went to find a parking spot. Evidently, he slipped and fell on his way to the door. Having had a few broken bones in the past, he was fairly sure that his arm was broken. To make a long story short, after spending 3 hours in the Emergency room, we were told by the doctor that he 'sprained the heck out of it', and were sent home with his arm in a sling.
By the next sunday, there had been a bit more snowfall, but the day was a little warmer, turning the snow to slush. As we were about to turn the corner, our car shut off and woudn't start again. Some people in our ward stopped to help us, and towed our car to an extra parking space somebody had at their apartment complex. It was a fairly painful process for all of us. Remember how the gutters are here in provo? Yeah, well I stepped right into one in my church shoes, which left me mid-calf deep in slushy snow. I had to dump slush out of my shoes. Anyway. It was also raining at the time, none of us had on good shoes for pushing a car, and chris had to use his bad arm. Later on, Chris's dad helped us tow the car to the repair shop for them to look at in the morning. Unfortunately the next morning we had to be at school for 7AM finals, and had no transportation. Thankfully mom was able to bail us out and picked us up on her way to school.
Evidently. it was a distributor cap that needed to be replaced, and now all is well.
We both finished up the semester at school, and we both did great! Chris got A's in his math, photoshop, and drawing. I got A's in my Intro to Nursing and Nutrition classes, and a B in my math class. I actually got a B on the final, which surprised me, so I'm VERY pleased with my grades. That's the last math class I'll have to take... and this has been my best semester of college so far!
Christmas was great. We had our own Christmas together, joined the Spencer family in theirs, and then went to the Wyckhuyse home as well. It was a great day and we were glad we were able to spend it with both of our families.
Jenae had Miri on the 29th, but I'll leave the blogging to her on that one. She looks so much like Brock! ...not to mention her mother.
On the 30th we came home after I got off work, and were unable to enter our apartment. Somebody thought it a good idea to have code entry rather than key entry in this complex, so that's why we had no way in. Luckily we had called the Resident Managers to complain about noise a couple days earlier, so we still had their number in our phone. Things were not as simple to replace as expected, so the entire process took 2 hours, keeping them at our apartment with the door open, letting cold air in, until midnight.
New years was a blast! We spent it with the Wyckhuyse's and stayed the night... with about 5 other visitors! Ok... so maybe 3. Mark proposed to Brittany that evening, but again, I will leave the blogging to her.
This past sunday, we came home from Church to not be able to get into our apartment. Again. This time we had no phones, and no numbers. We went to the Spencer's house to try to contact somebody who could help us, but had no luck. We finally came back to the complex and knocked on a neighbors door to borrow a phone and get the resident manager's number. This time was just a battery that needed to be changed, but we're hoping that these excapades end here!!
I started school Monday. I'm taking my class to become a Nurse's Assistant (CNA). I am SO excited! We will begin woking/practicing on mannequins next week which I am so excited for! We will start clinicals in March, and the class ends in April. I'm still working at HDOS, but I'm looking forward to moving on as soon as I finish up this class!
Chris starts school tomorrow and is taking Drawing 2 and the next math class. This should keep him pretty busy. He's also finishing up everything he has to do so he can transfer to BYU for the summer.
